Wasco'ing on?
A group of children, a couple of boxes of wax crayons, a big supply of paint and jazz – that’s WASCO! Ten young performers from 6 to 12 years old build a world from scratch, far away from the one where the adults live. They dance a universe into being with crayons and paintbrushes, on their own terms. The result is a painting.
After all, what is dancing if not drawing in space? Choreographer Lisbeth Gruwez and musician Maarten Van Cauwenberghe explore the common ground between music, drawing and dance in WASCO! Together with the children, they develop a soundtrack with space for unexpected actions and spontaneous extravagance.
If freedom had a shape, what would it look like? WASCO! is an invitation to colour outside the lines. An explosive action painting performance. Unbridled, chaotic and wild. And sometimes gentle.
